Car crashes into New Jersey Transit bus

Seven people were injured on May 1 in an early morning collision between a car and a New Jersey Transit bus in Newark. The driver of the car reportedly attempted to flee the scene of the accident despite being critically injured and was soon apprehended by police on suspicion of drunk driving.

According to information provided by the New York City Police Department, the accident occurred around 2 a.m. at the intersection of Central Avenue and South Eighth Street in Newark. The evidence analyzed by investigators at the scene indicates that a Cadillac was moving at high speed when it ran a red light and crashed into the side of the number 34 NJ Transit bus traveling through the intersection on its route between Newark and Bloomfield. The two occupants of the Cadillac car suffered serious injuries in the crash, and rescue workers were forced to use the Jaws of Life to extricate the passenger from the wreckage. The driver of the car was also seriously injured, but was still able to flee the scene and run several blocks before being caught.

The driver of the Cadillac was taken into custody on suspicion of drunk driving, and the passenger was listed in critical condition at University Hospital in Newark. The passengers of the bus were reported to have suffered only minor injuries.

People who suffer serious injuries as a result of a drunk driving accident often find themselves with significant medical expenses and other financial burdens. In some cases, innocent victims of car crashes caused by impaired or negligent drivers can obtain an attorney to seek financial compensation from the responsible party.
