This is why car accidents happen in city settings

On Behalf of | Jan 21, 2020 | Car Accidents

Driving in tight spaces, such as in a city setting, is much different than the open road of the highway. It calls for you to adjust your driving style, all with the idea of avoiding an accident and reaching your destination without incident.

Car accidents happen in city settings for many reasons, with these among the most common:

  • Disregard for traffic signals: For example, you’re making your way through a green light at an intersection when someone traveling on a crossroad ignores the red light and strikes your vehicle on the side. Even if you exercise extreme caution, there’s not much you can do to prevent this type of accident.
  • Aggressive driving: Heavy, slow traffic has the potential to anger people, which increases the risk of an accident. Aggressive drivers are more likely to take risks, putting everyone in a compromising position.
  • Distracted driving: When traffic slows, many drivers look for something to occupy them. They change radio stations, talk to passengers, dig through their glove box and send text messages. Any distraction greatly increases the risk of an accident.

You can only do so much to maintain your safety while driving in a city setting. If your best efforts still result in an accident caused by another driver, move to safety, such as a nearby parking lot, and then call 911.

Medical care is a must, as you could have serious injuries that require immediate attention. As soon as possible, contact your insurance agent and learn more about the legal system, as there are many ways to seek compensation for your injuries and damages.
