Your brain injury might change your life

On Behalf of | Sep 4, 2020 | Brain Injury

If you suffered a traumatic brain injury (TBI) in a car wreck caused by another at-fault driver, your life as you knew it might be irretrievably altered. There is a wide spectrum of consequences of brain injuries ranging from the headaches suffered by those with only mild concussions to the vegetative states from which there is no recovery.

Where you fall on that spectrum depends on many factors, including the severity of the accident that injured you and what portion of your brain was affected. Your own underlying health at the time of the collision can also be a significant factor, as those who have already suffered head trauma are more at risk for severe damage than those who have never suffered prior head injuries.

Getting immediate medical treatment after a head injury occurs is paramount to your surviving the injury and recovering well. There are many instances of TBI patients initially walking and talking normally right after an accident occurs only to succumb to devastating brain injuries in the hours that follow. In fact, the so-called “golden hour” after the accident occurs is the time to seek emergency medical intervention so that if the injury is far more serious than it appears, you can receive swift medical care.

Once you have begun to heal, you still might have a long road to recovery. Getting all the therapeutic support that you need to make a full recovery can be quite expensive, however. That’s why we encourage you to file a claim for damages against the liable party. Doing so can open the door for compensation for your present and future medical care, pain, suffering, lost wages and other damages.
