Seven people were injured on May 1 in an early morning collision between a car and a New Jersey Transit bus in Newark. The driver of the car reportedly attempted to flee the scene of the accident despite being critically injured and was soon apprehended by police on suspicion of drunk driving.
Speed and driver distraction were identified as contributing factors in an Aug. 19 car accident that killed three people in Monmouth County, reportedly. However, it was not clear what caused the 19-year-old driver of the Volkswagen Jetta involved in the wreck to become distracted, county officials stated.
When individuals take their eyes off of the road ahead to focus their attention on something else, we call it distracted driving. A variety of actions can be considered a distraction, including changing the radio, leaning down to pick something up off the floor, eating food, putting on makeup or even turning around to scold the kids that are acting up in the back seat.
