Woman critically injured in 3-vehicle wreck

An accident between three vehicles has left a woman from New Jersey and three others with injuries. Police reports state that the crash occurred around 4 a.m. on Nov. 13.

The car accident happened in New York City when the 33-year-old woman attempted to drive her sedan onto the FDR but entered it in the wrong direction. After entering, she was alleged to have driven 10 blocks south in the northbound lanes before she ran into two SUVs.

The woman driving the sedan required transportation to a nearby hospital for treatment of critical injuries. Her passenger and the drivers of the other two vehicles received non-life-threatening injuries. Police did not speculate as to whether alcohol or distracted driving may have been factors in the incident. No criminal charges against any of the people involved in the accident had been announced at the time of the report.

An individual who is injured in a car accident may choose to seek financial redress for the harm they suffered, lost wages and the medical bills they may have had to pay as a result of someone else's careless error or illegal action. New Jersey law also allows for the possibility of punitive damages. In a case where someone behaved with outrageous carelessness, criminal negligence or outright malevolence, then it is possible to demand the award of damages above the amount of fair compensation as a way of punishing the malefactor and discouraging them from repeated offenses. An attorney may be able to help a plaintiff reach the higher standard of proof necessary for the court to impose punitive damages on a defendant.
