Do you understand the seriousness of post-concussion syndrome?

On Behalf of | Jan 9, 2020 | Brain Injury

If you suffer a concussion, it’s imperative to follow the treatment plan outlined by your medical team. Doing so puts you in the best possible position to make a fast and full recovery.

However, even if you do everything as planned, you could still find yourself suffering from post-concussion syndrome. This is a complicated disorder in which the symptoms of your concussion drag on for several weeks or months longer than expected.

Some of the most common symptoms of post-concussion syndrome include:

  • Dizziness
  • Headaches
  • Insomnia
  • Anxiety
  • Fatigue
  • Memory loss
  • Inability to concentrate
  • Sensitivity to light and noise

Should you see your doctor?

It’s important to stay in touch with your doctor as you recover, giving them the opportunity to run additional tests if necessary. For example, if you present with symptoms that appear to point toward post-concussion syndrome, they may want to run additional tests to rule out other injuries.

There is never a good time to take a risk when it comes to the health of your brain. If your doctor diagnoses you with post-concussion syndrome, they can then implement a treatment plan to help you reduce and eliminate the symptoms over time.

Depending on the cause of your concussion, you may be in position to hold the negligent party responsible for your damages, including medical bills associated with your initial injury and post-concussion syndrome.

To protect your legal rights, make sure you receive treatment immediately after your accident. You don’t want much, if any, time to elapse between the accident and when you first consult with a medical professional.
