When you’re traveling, the last thing you’d expect is to get hit by another driver. It’s your hope that others would take your safety seriously and avoid doing anything dangerous behind the wheel.

Unfortunately, people don’t always make the right decisions. Take, for example, this case out of South Toms River in which a woman was seriously injured when another driver collided with her.

Dangerous driving caused serious injuries

According to the story out of Berkeley, New Jersey, a man from Manchester has now been charged for driving while intoxicated and aggravated assault. A woman from South Toms River was struck from behind by that 49-year-old man while she was driving her 2003 Hyundai Elantra.

The crash resulted in both vehicles going off the road. The woman suffered serious injuries and had to be flown to the Jersey Shore University Medical Center for treatment. Now, she’s in a rehabilitation facility while she works through her recovery.

The man was also taken to the hospital. There, it was discovered that his blood alcohol concentration (BAC) was .129%. The prosecutor’s office also claimed that he had methadone in his system.

The man has also been accused of other crimes including careless driving, tailgating, reckless driving and more.

Crashes can be serious or take lives

The reality is that crashes can be serious or take the lives of those involved. Fortunately, both parties in this case are likely to survive, but the injured woman may have a long recovery. If you’re injured in a crash like this, remember that you have a right to look into your legal options.
