A simple mistake can cause a serious car accident

On Behalf of | Feb 27, 2020 | Car Accidents

Sometimes, it’s the simplest mistakes that cause the most serious car accidents. And for that reason, it’s critical that you do whatever it takes to remain mistake-free every time you get behind the wheel.

Here are several examples of simple mistakes that put your safety and well-being at risk:

  • Sending just one text: Yes, it’s only one text, but that’s all it takes to cause an accident. If you take your eyes off the road for even one second, it greatly increases the risk of a crash.
  • Grabbing for something in your vehicle: Maybe your phone is in your glove box. Maybe your lipstick is in the center console. Or perhaps your water bottle slid under your seat. If you need to grab for something, pull over to safety before doing so. If you don’t, you’re taking at least one hand off the wheel and possibly your eyes away from the road.
  • Adjusting vehicle controls: If you need to do this while driving, keep both eyes on the road. Don’t look away, such as to check the radio station, as doing so is just as dangerous as texting.

Even if you’re protecting against these simple mistakes, you can rest assured that some other drivers don’t care to take as much caution. There are people out there who throw caution to the wind when they drive, which puts everyone else at risk.

Should one of these negligent drivers cause an accident, call 911 for help, obtain medical treatment and then file a car insurance claim. Your health and financial well-being should move to the forefront at this point.
